Murphy’s Law

Posted by flummoxed1 on Feb 13, 2008 in thoughts

Someone stuck up a notice (more like a joke, I guess) on the staff room notice board about Murphy’s Law and today, I read it. Made a large smile stretch across my face (almost hurt as I haven’t really smiled much recently!).

Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

You will always find something in the last place you look.

No matter how long or how hard you shop for an item, after you’ve bought it, it will be on sale somewhere cheaper.

The other line always moves faster.

In order to get a loan, you must first prove you don’t need it.

Anything you try to fix will take longer and cost you more than you thought.

If it jams – force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

When a broken appliance is demonstrated for the repairman, it will work perfectly.

Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral or fattening.

Murphy’s golden rule: whoever has the gold makes the rules.

In case of doubt, make it sound convincing.

Never argue with a fool, people might not know the difference.

I also found this page which is pretty interesting: Murphy’s Law (and other peoples laws)

Funny how most of those (if not all) are true!

Work

Posted by flummoxed1 on Feb 13, 2008 in jobs/careers, life, people

I’m sorry I’ve not been the most religious of bloggers recently but I haven’t forgotten about the blog at all. Well I’ve been having a bit of a rocky time with personal conflicts within myself, ill-health, work and home life etc. I will maybe go into stuff as I type up entries because if I write up everything in one go, this will turn into a really long entry. I’ll start with a bit about work.

Well, in a duration of 3 – 4 days, two people died. Totally unrelated and both deaths upset me. One of the people who died was a huge shock because I just did not expect it to happen. Out of everyone, I didn’t think expect to turn up to work on Friday to be told “Mrs So-and-so passed away this morning”. The other death was a bit unexpected, I mean, she was reaching a good age but the last time I saw her before she went into hospital she looked totally fine, that weekend she collapsed and was taken to hospital then within a week, she dies. A lonely lady, from what I understood, from the family perspective, anyway. Not many visitors etc but of course, when the family heard about her being on her deathbed they were on the phone and down the hospital, visited the flat after she passed away to take her TV etc. Very well liked within the complex, though, and she is missed. That means, 2 soon-to-be empty flats, there’s another 2 empty flats (both moved out) that makes it 4 flats. 2 new people have moved into the empty flats and they are both nice, first impressions, anyway. From what I’ve heard there’s another man due to move in to one of the flats. Low on men, women outnumber the men by a landslide – both staff AND tenants. I think there’s, like, 6 men, and 1 male member of staff.

It’s like a family, really, everyone gets on well with each other, staff and the tenants. What am I? I guess I’d call myself a somewhat distant cousin. I do talk etc but am finding it very hard. Not the job so much as the socialising. The job itself can be a bit difficult at times but it’s the friendship making and socialising I’m finding is a bit of a rough course. Easier than what it was when I started the job but am still finding it difficult. People seem to like me but I dunno… I’ve been really paranoid. It’s a bit like ‘The Sims’. Friendships need to be built. You can’t just walk into a building and expect everyone to love and be friends with you. On ‘The Sims’, relationships are shown by points. The more you talk to someone and get to know them the more points you get, and you become a friend of someone when you reach 50 points, or something. I think I’m on 15 or something. Getting there. Maybe. sad.gif

Yeah work is a bit hectic atm and have also been loaded with paperwork. Le sigh.

My lovely neighbours…

Posted by flummoxed1 on Feb 8, 2008 in life, people, thoughts

Neighbours, everybody needs good Neighbours
Just a friendly wave each morning, helps to make a better day
Neighbours, need to get to know each other
Next door is only a footstep away
Neighbours, everybody needs good Neighbours
With a little understanding, you can find the perfect blend
Neighbours, should be there for one another
That’s when good Neighbours become good friends

Ahahaha!! If only, eh? My nieghbours.. could easily win a nieghbours from hell competition. We have lived here for quite a few years now and I’ll make a list of what they’ve done…

  • I saw one the mother beat someone up across the road
  • numerous police-raids with dogs etc. One time, they shown up with a warrant to search our house for weapons but meant to go next door (we’re never in trouble with the police)
  • I’ve seen drugs being exchanged
  • One of their relatives, who used to go there pretty often, was arrested and charged for being involved in a murder just around the corner.
  • Threatened us with fireworks and told us not to sleep at night
  • Thrown condoms over the back garden wall
  • Littering our front garden
  • Smashed one of my car windows a few days after I passed my driving test – nothing proved, but come on, 99% sure it was them.
  • They’ve hidden criminals including an armed robber (closed the street off and armed police were everywhere)
  • Have called me names
  • Lied numerous times about us
  • One time, told the RSPCA we were hurting my little dog Sam because they heard him crying, a pack of lies, my dad nor me would of never hurt Sam.
  • We also got the blame for police callouts etc (and RSPCA callouts) even though we never contacted the police about them incidents.
  • Had eggs thrown at our windows and my car
  • Had the police called to us because they said my dad had hit their daughter (more lies)
  • Threaten each other in the family and at one stage, one of the women thrown a garden rake at her cousin (it missed)

What made me write this list? Well, most recent event is the other night I come home from work to find the street filled with police cars etc. Two vehicles – one white van and a car pulled up, people came out wearing hoodies welding baseball bats etc and went into next door and gave a few people a beating.

Ah, I live near some lovely people.

Fast Lanes!!

Posted by flummoxed1 on Feb 6, 2008 in life, people, thoughts

I believe we should not only have fast lanes on motorways but in shopping centres and high streets, too! I am naturally a fast walker and it irritates me to no end when I’m stuck behind a person walking so slow I see a snail running between their legs with a flag stuck in it’s shell screaming “ne ne ne ne neeee” as it’s going past.

Then there’s the people who stop in the middle of a busy street to talk and gossip to one and other. No, they don’t step to the side to get out of everyones way they stand where they STOP and they just refuse to move. When you say, “excuse me” they mutter something but EXCUSE ME (I say to myself, in my head)… it’s YOU who is blocking the street up. Not moi. smug.gif

Then when you’re driving. A car decides to stop in front, puts his hazard lights on and has a chat to someone walking by, or, a car coming the other way. EXCUSE ME. I mutter to myself, actually, talking to myself. That’s the grand thing about being in a car, you can say anything you want (I take full advantage of this smile.gif ) and no one can hear you. Yayness!!

So yes, we need a few more fast lanes to save my sanity. happyyes.gif

Night Sky

Posted by flummoxed1 on Feb 5, 2008 in thoughts

This evening I was walking to the chip shop and the sky looked so tranquil and it looked like the illustrations in childrens books. The sky was a dark navy blue with stars scattered everywhere, like someone thrown a ball of glitter into the air and the light breeze divided the glitter through the heavenly sky. Faded grey clouds here and there that kinda blended into the atmosphere. All that was missing was the moon, but it wasn’t needed. Beautiful enough.

Random Facts #1

Posted by flummoxed1 on Feb 2, 2008 in life, random facts

Random facts about myself:

  1. I prefer dark chocolate to light chocolate
  2. I don’t like Christmas pudding
  3. I almost always wear odd socks
  4. Fizzy drinks give me a very sore throat so when I drink them I drink them slowly, few and far between.
  5. I’ve a birthmark between the thumb and first finger on my right hand.
  6. I’m lefthanded…
  7. … although I hold cutlery in a righthanded way…
  8. … and I can’t use those lefthanded scissors
  9. I cannot stand leaving the house without makeup*
  10. Have never tasted mushrooms and don’t intend to – the look of them puts me off!
  11. I sometimes sleep with a teddy bear
  12. Only last week did I start listening to music/the radio while driving – and I wasn’t distracted! Passed my driving test in September ‘07 and it took all this time to feel comfortable enough behind the wheel.
  13. I hate shoe shopping with a passion.
  14. Since starting work I haven’t been able to do a lot of Red Cross volunteering and I miss it.
  15. I am very cautious with my money and don’t splash out all that often. Only now and again, when I know I have the money to spend!

* Yesterday I was in a rush to get to work and when I got to work, looked in a mirror in the staffroom and to my horror – forgot to apply my makeup. OMG, I was horrified. I couldn’t go home, and had to stick with it all evening… Even if I just wore some mascara that would have been fine.

(On another note – updated my handbag page)

Holidays & Concerts

Posted by flummoxed1 on Feb 1, 2008 in jobs/careers, life, pets

I’ve been meaning to type up an entry for a few days now but I’ve just been so tired I haven’t had the energy. This morning, though, it’s not even 10am and I’ve started the washing, completed some paperwork for work and pensions etc, and phoned up the agency I’ve booked an apartment though to confirm a few details. What did I just say? Yes, I’m going on a holiday! (hopefully)

Well, I have some annual leave I need to get rid of before the end of March, I have around 11 days to take off so I’m putting in a request for the week off between 29th February – 7th March so we can go to Ilfracombe. The apartment is already booked, so I’m really hoping I’ll be able to get the time off!! When I say we, I mean, my dad, Callum and my mum. Little Snuggles will need to stay here and Mal is going to look after him while we’re away. The apartment is BEAUTIFUL!! It’s right on the seafront, too. Look through the large windows in the main living area and see the sea and you can walk onto the balcony, then go into one of the bedrooms and you get a view of the town, I think. It cost £286 for the week which I think is a great bargain. It also has an en-suite, bathroom with shower, breakfast bar and other things, too.

Last night there was an Accordion Concert at work last night and it was actually a very good band. Around 30 tenants shown up, and everyone enjoyed it. It was so good seeing people laughing and having smiles on their faces joining hands and singing. A few of the people who attended haven’t been well at all recently and have been stuck in their flat not feeling well enough to go out but last night they attended the concert and had a good time with their friends. Us staff had a good time too, although, at the end, the three of us were dragged to the front and made to join hands and sing to two of the songs. Argh. Our senior must have planned that!!
